By doing this questionnaire getting a insight of what they see in films and their general interests of what they think of gangster crime film can influence the way I think when making my film trailer.

Results
From the graphs I asked 50% percent of boys and women, i have done this so that the sample was not gender biased from my findings. Also I have asked 5 people from each age group so that could understand how they feel about movies and what their interests are. On the top right pie chart most of the audiences favourite genre was Action, I did some probing asking them relatable questions on why they picked the Action genre. Majority said that they generally like Action films because they often see their favourite/popular actor that is starred in the film. Another finding from my results were that 3/4 of the audience thought that the sound in a gangster/crime film is very important because some said it builds up tension and suspense for the audience to suggests that something going to happen or scare them. Especially sound in films like Godfather scenes help indicate that some situations are in danger or they are going to lead into chaos. Another finding from my results was how the audience would feel when watching a gangster/crime film, a vast amount of people said excited. This shows that in a gangster/crime film people would normally be excited therefore this factor would be good when making my trailer as I can relate it to their needs in what makes a good gangster film. On the other hand I asked further questions on why they would feel that way, and they said there are always scenes that build up calmly but then a plot twist happens that escalates quickly which make the audience feel that there something more to the story. It engages the audience to keep their attention and focus onto what will happen next. In addition Q4&6 both had similiar answers stating the films that they watched and the trailers they watched, for example recent films including Jack Reacher, Dont Breathe, Fast & Furious 8, Now You See Me 2, The Godfather, John Wick and many other films showing that the audience are up to date on the latest current films in the recent years. Finally I asked what social media app they use most often and some people said Snapchat, by this I know the most common media the audience use to get useful information and how advertisements are reaching to the audience through advanced technology.

Film Research - MadMax (Trailer/Poster/Front Cover Magazine Analysis)

 Poster Analysis
The title of the film is called "Mad Max- Fury Road", in a big font size nearly covering the whole poster, this emphasises by makeing the film name stand out to the audience. We also see how the editor embedded a layered effect within the title and the actors with "Mad Max" being placed behind them while the "Fury Road" is directly infront of them. The main image we see is two people both holding guns and wearing ragged clothes with pieces of metal attached, this suggests that they are chained up like how prisoners are and have to be kept maintained for societys needs. In addition the character has a prop of a cage around his face giving us the sense he is dangerous and the main character of the film, on the other hand the women is crouching down which could indicate that she is helping him being apart of his journey for survival. We can tell that the tag line is placed right at the top to separate it from the credits and small details so that it stands out. It is also written in a free formed font giving the impression that it was hand written to represent the post-apocalyptic era. The credits are placed at the bottom of the poster which shown in majority of mainstream film posters, making it a convenient space as the important things would be placed above and the least important at the bottom. This also give recognition and contribution to the directors and producers in the company who took part in making the film together. The production name are placed at the bottom as well as the credits, gives contribution to the studios it was produced by but also audiences can tell if it is a good film by the past films the studio has created. The actors name are placed on top because the audience can see what famous actors that they are familiar with, the names correspond with the characters in the posters to show what type of character will be shown through the film giving a hint of his character personality. Furthermore the detail on the font of "Mad Max" has leftover stains of blood which is situated around the film name, could suggests how their world has being in chaos and how it may collide with another spieces causing greater chaos.

Trailer Analysis

In the beginning of the trailer for Mad Max, we easily see the production company's Warner Brothers and Roadshow Films, which are generally popular company's that the audience can relate to especially when they have made successful films. The visual effects on the company logo have been edited to relate to the theme of the film, being set in a futuristic, dystopian and desert environment. In addition there are also red blood being smudge across the logo which connotes anger, destruction and death, this could linked to the idea of the theme being very hectic and everywhere.
Then a little scene is introduced with a long-shot while panning to the right, setting the location of it being in the desert we can see a car being followed by customised cars. This could suggest that there was a difference in relationship between the two sets of car, one being a ally and one being the enemy. But then the car is tipped and an explosion occurs suggesting that there might be some violence contained throughout the film .
Close-ups were often used for example the close-up of the antagonist the mad crazy guy in the car, we can see a close-up of his facial expression which seemed to be possessive and crazy. His facial expression could suggests that he is mental and different than the rest of the people but could indicate that he’s evil and a creepy character. The crazy guy must have been through a lot in his past or neglected to act this certain way.
In the middle of the tease trailer we can hear drums banging while the words “The world goes mad” are being displayed every drum beat. This creates tension and excitement with cut-shots of the journey in the film. Also the words suggest that something terrible is going to happen making the audience feel aware of the situation.
Actors names are shown while cut-shots of scenes that have been in, by showing their names big and bold this will catch out the audiences attention because they could be familiar with their names or have seen them being involved in other film. This is good for the company because people are more likely to watch their film because of the popular actors included.

The ending of the trailers finished off with the movie name, the soon come, as well as the credits to the people who contributed to make the film. They did not include the movie date because it was a tease trailer therefore it will be minimal than compared to a normal trailer.

Front Cover Magazine

On the total film front cover a two shot image is used with the two main characters from the'Mad Max:Fury Road' film. The way Max is positioned portrays to the audience that he is the dominant character as he is standing in front of the female main character conveying patriarchy.Max is also looking directly into the camera for a direct mode of address to the audience. However the male main characters body language and facial expression is conforming to the stereotype that men are always dominant. hence why the female main character is standing behind the male main character, implying he is in front to protect her.The woman is looking away from the camera - looking at her surroundings this could imply to the audience that she is unsure of where she is and is looking around for anything suspicious however the man is confident and is looking straight into the camera. The use of a mid-shot on this front cover is to make it able for the audience to see the characters facial expression but also to see the background and the setting they are in to help reveal the theme of the movie as well as the costumes and iconography.
The mise-en-scene of this front cover insinuates to the audience that the genre of this movie is a dystopian genre. the setting of the image gives this away as there is smoke in the air and trucks and cranes that can destroy things indicating to the audience that here is a theme of destruction. There is a gun in the male main character , which also relates to the theme of destruction as guns kill and damage. The female main character also has a mechanical arm which relates to the theme of destruction and the dystopian genre. the characters are wearing protective clothing such as shoulder pads and bullet proof vests, which shows the audience that there is danger included in this film which is why they need to be protected. the colours used on this front cover are Red, Black and white which symbolises danger, death, mystery, purity and innocence. These contrasts of colours imply to the audience that these themes are included in this film. Also these colours contrast well together on the page.
The placement of the masthead behind the male main character 'Tom Hardy' is a good selling point for the magazine. When magazines are placed on the shelves in stores , the masthead is one of the first things you see. Because Tom's head is over the masthead, that means that it will be spotted when stacked on the shelves and due to his very good career and popularity, people will pick up the magazine because they recognise him and his work, they then would be interested in watching this movie because he is starring in it.The placement of the title of the movie (in the middle) is also a god choice of placement. Once someone from the targeted audience picks up the magazine with Tom's head , they will instantly know the name of the movie as it is the first thing you notice, due to its big, red font. The language used on this front cover is very persuasive for example, "epic", "exclusive", "ultimate", these verbs are all superlatives which makes the audience feel like it is a must to purchase this magazine as it has these "epic"contents inside. The title of the magazine "Total Film" is in a white font with brown dirt like effect seeping in. This can insinuate to the audience that these two main characters are going to influence the majority which is the "MAD" people - and take over the majority.

On the Empire magazine front cover a one shot and mid shot is used. This is similar to the Total Film magazine , they chose this so the background/setting and main characters facial expression can be shown to the audience at the same time.Tom Hardy is the only character on this magazine, insinuating he is the main focus of the film, and the audience might sympathise or be on his side when they watch the film. This is most likely to be the first front cover to be released as Tom Hardy is a well known actor and he can act as a big selling point when previewing the film for the first time compared to the Total Film magazine which may be second as it introduces the second main character who is not as important as Max. Similarly to Total film magazine, Tom Hardy's head is covering the masthead. Empire and Total magazine both see Tom as a big selling point and are using him to sell their magazines. The same limited colour palette is used on this front cover (Red,Black,White) which when placed on top of each other make the writing clear and can help highlight key points such as "2015 Preview" and "Empire" for the audience. Both magazines have the same iconography of the gun , which may be an important part of the image as is gives away the genre of the movie. This front cover makes Max look like he is the main hero in the movie however , in Total Film magazine front cover , they portray it as a team effort , and that both of them are the heros. Both f these front covers use superlatives and persuasive language to engage the audience and get them to pick up he magazine and purchase it. Both magazines conform to the conventions that the images are of the characters in costumes and their setting behind them , which gives a sense and taste of the film to the audience.

Film Research - Jason Bourne (Poster/Trailer Analysis)

Poster Analysis

The poster for Jason Bourne (2016) is very simple but effective, in the poster we see the protagonist in low-key lighting. This could show that Jason has two sides to his character, in the previous films he is known for his ability to kill people. However he is shown to be a genuinely good person through the people he meets on his journey. Also Jason is holding a gun right beside him which connotates authority and power suggesting that he is a real threat against the community or using it for his own protection. In the poster they have only used white and black especially in contrast with the title because it more visible and easy to see for the audience, also the headline “You know his name” is very effective because throughout the Jason Bourne film’s his character  has become well-know and popular . Therefore the audience will already know what to expect from him and how the main character will come across dangerous task he needs to do in the film. Moreover on the bottom of each advertisement we can see “#Bourne”, this is a hashtag that people can use on their social media accounts to find others with the same content/theme. These hashtags is very popular nowadays especially when finding something similar, industries can use this easily with its low cost and how effective it can be. The third poster is filled with text more compared to the other two advertisements, this one contains the official date of when the film would come out at the bottom. As well as the film rated as PG-13, advising the lower aged audience the film they may need parental guidance for some of its inappropriate scenes. In addition we can also see credits to some people who helped to create the film.

Trailer Analysis

In the beginning of trailer, it starts with a mid-shot of Jason on his bed looking up. His facial expression looks very confused and lost, which could suggest that he stressed and overthinking too much about his life. We can see from the lighting he has some sweat across his forehead to reinforce the idea, that hes thinking about how his life came to the point where he has to keep running to find out his identity.

After the mid-shot a montage of scenes are put together, these scenes are memories of the past Jason Bourne to show what he went through in order to survive. But to also show that he did it to find who he is, fast paced edited scenes were put together to build tension making the audience feel more aware and hyped of what he is capable of.  We also see more of these montages of him either killing, running or trying to use smart tactics to survive. This supports the idea that Jason is a super assassin  and can overcome challenging tasks when he wants, making him invincible and a threat to others.

Over-the-shoulder shot was taking which we see the perspective of what Jason’s seeing, a woman named Nicky Parsons former CIA looking innocent towards him. This could suggests she feels sympathy for Jason as she knows he is a good person and only wants to help him. In the film she actually helps him by hacking files and finding out about Treadstone, she finds out he was apart of it.

In the middle of the trailer a establishing shot is used showing an aerial view of the inner city. This shot is effective because it sets out the scene and tone for the film, also we can see some smoke coming from one of the buildings suggesting that the place is in danger. This is where Jason is most likely to be as he is looking for clue and hints, while the government are notified that files were hacked and now tracking down the location of where the two might be.

In the end Robert Dewey tells him “You’re not gonna find peace until you find out who you are” to Jason, the close-up of Bourne’s facial expression tells us that he is disappointed and frustrated towards himself. The low-key lighting shot adds onto the point that Jason will always have a good side but also a bad side to him reflecting his character and what he experienced before all of this happened.

Target Audience:
I think the target audience for Jason Bourne film would be 15+, this would be a suitable age because it does contain some gruesome fighting action and explosions which a mature age would understand. Also I think the film would be more of a male gender audience due to a action genre film where men would enjoy rather than how a female would see it. In the film there predominately more males being presented than females which could appeal more to males than females.

Film Research - Deadpool (Poster/Trailer Analysis)

Poster Analysis
Advertisements for Deadpool have been displayed again simple and minimal. On the first picture we see a close-up of half his body, I think they intended to do this because they would instantly know and familiarise themselves that it is Deadpool. Also the colour red from his superhero costume corresponds to the headline “Deadpool” in red, therefore creating a house style for him. His costume is a tight black and red leather suit, including gun holsters while carrying a gun (prop) which will help him along his quest. On the bottom of the poster we see extras that are added containing the release date, production company etc.. One thing that stands out on all posters here is the slogans like “Wait ‘Til you get a load of me” and “Bad Ass. Smart Ass. Great Ass.” These including catchy phrases or quotes from the character, makes the poster more friendly and welcoming attracting the audiences attention because of its good sense of humour.

Trailer Analysis

A establishing shot is presented at the beginning, giving the audience an aerial view of the location. It sets the scene at a busy city more like New York which is stereo typically known for having loads of taxi’s, busy streets with majority tourists who come visit.

Here  is a two close-up shots, with one with his facial expression and the other  both holding their hands together firmly. This suggest that the couple are unhappy but united as husband and wife, when he is told that he has cancer  so his very cautious about himself. However the wife feels sympathy towards her husband due to his health at risk.

In the middle of the trailer a over-the-shoulder shot of a mysterious looking man, his facial expressions looks very fierce and deceptive suggesting that he could be a dangerous man especially if he has never met him in his life. Although the man helps him cure his cancer but only if he is willing to accept to live a life with special abilities, like having his body indestructible.

These four shots in a montage were fast paced edited while Wade was being brought to the lab. Each shot was right before another which was quick and rapid, building tension towards the audience that somethings not right. Close-ups of his face and the needle all link up to indicating that things doesn't feel as if he should do it. Eventually in the long shot he survived a massive bomb explosion which left the city dismantled, which was lucky and felt as if he had his life back now but left wonder how long was he out for.

In this mid-shot we then see Wade who’s face became ruined by the cure looking at
mask, which he created himself. This signifies how important the mask is to him because he
cannot show or reveal his identity for his life. However he then claims himself “Deadpool”,
and hunts down the man who done this to him with the help of Colossus and Negasonic
Teenage Warhead.

Target Audience:
I would say the target audience would be ages 13-18 for teenage
since the film has comical characters within a twist of the bad guys
verses the good guys. I think the gender base will be aimed mainly at
males because of how females aren't seen in the film industry as much
as men. However a niche audience of females for the superhero
Negasonic Teenage Warhead.

Film Research - Suicide Squad (Poster/Trailer Analysis)

Poster Analysis
Posters for the film “Suicide Squad” has been laid out very minimal and simple. As we can see on the left hand side there are all the characters that are included in the movie, as well as their names which is very useful for target audience. This is because they have might seen recent films that contain key actors/actresses they like or dislike. Moreover there is some text on the bottom of the poster including a “hashtag” which is seen a lot in social medias, these will keep people updated to news about the film, ratings, and normal discussions . We see next to the hash tag a small date of when the movie is going to be released, this ensures and reminds the audience. Small Details like if the film has a selection to be viewed in 3D in the cinema, some audiences like to watch in 3D giving a totally different experience than watching it normal. There are also billboard posters that are advertised around motorways, supermarkets etc.. That help make advertising effective to its full potential.

Trailer Analysis

In the beginning of the Suicide Bomb Trailer the use of establishing shot which showed a Security Guard patrolling a prison cell that included one of the villains, from a prison cell we associate that the people are only in cells because of bad behavior. This indicates that these people are criminals and have a reputation of behaving bad in the community.

After the establishing shot, the use of props like comfy slip-ons, multi-colored hair dye, and drinking tea while reading a book. All these things are shown to be essentials in everyday life reflecting her personality as very relax, chilled and laid-back. However it is strangely weird for her to be very calm about the environment she is in.

A montage was used to show how the Suicide Squad was formed, fast paced short cuts of all of the characters displayed help the audience acknowledge who they are creating a relationship or a bond between them all.  Also the most important used shot is the mid shot, the shot is effective at at all times as it shows unity within the squad together. Thus showing the audience that they are just equal to each other.

Each picture shows the ability of each individual indicating that they are a threat to others, by their supernatural powers. First off El’Diablo who can create fire but struggles to control it with ease, but when hes angry he is more threatening and powerful. Secondly we have Deadshot who in his name never misses a shot with his gun, in the film he seems more willing to sacrifice the world for his daughter which cares about. Thirdly Killer Croc who can use his predator like senses to hunt down men, the duo Harley Quin and The Joker both added already making the Suicide Squad even more like a death squad with a total of 9 people. However these people are being control by the government to carry out top secret missions, which can be dangerous. With a big team in order to do the mission safely they must be willing to work with each other, the key for them to be safe and make it alive.

Target Audience:
Suicide Squad film was produced by DC Entertainment thus has target audience of people who are into to comic books including only superheroes and villains. I think this film would be stereo typically more appealing to teenagers from ages 13-18, the film would be aimed at generally males because of how dominant they are in films, while having a niche appeal to females for heroes like Harley Quin.
